Excelguru Consulting Inc. was founded by Ken Puls, also known as the Excel Guru. We are dedicated to providing live, hands-on workshops, online video courses, presentations, keynotes, and other training opportunities. Excelguru specializes in resources for and training in business intelligence using Microsoft Excel and the Power suite of tools (Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate, etc.) for data modeling, data analysis, reporting and dashboarding, and more.
The Excelguru site provides an extensive catalogue of articles (where in many of them Ken shares much of his experimentation and observations of different technologies, particularly Power Query). It also includes our free help forums for answering questions on Excel, VBA, Power Pivot, PivotTables, Power Query, Power BI, and more.
About Ken Puls, FCPA, FCMA
Ken Puls is a world-renowned business intelligence expert, author, blogger, and trainer. Before stepping into Excelguru Consulting Inc. full time in May 2015, Ken spent over twenty years working in public practice accounting and industry as both Controller and an IT Director. Ken has led the installation of over a dozen systems conversions and implementations of various types, and been exposed to a vast amount of business systems, including point-of-sale systems, databases, and analysis tools, some of which he wrote from scratch.
Ken has spent many years providing both public and private training, speaking at conferences and events around the world, and running the Vancouver Power BI and Modern Excel User Group. In 2020, he co-founded Skillwave Training, a training platform focused on developing and delivering world-class online training on topics such as Power Query, Power BI, Excel, Power Pivot, and Dimensional Modeling.
Ken has a passion for teaching people how to build business intelligence, specifically focusing on Excel and Power BI. He gets most excited about the topics he knows will save YOU time and make you more efficient. Your software should work for you, and that’s his focus.
Ken is co-author of RibbonX – Customizing the Office 2007 Ribbon, M is for (Data) Monkey: The Excel Pro’s Definitive Guide to Power Query, and Master Your Data with Excel and Power BI (the new second edition of M is for (Data) Monkey). He is also the creator of Power Query Recipes, a set of ready-to-use cards that lead you step-by-step through a variety of data transformations and techniques.

Ken is regarded as one of the world’s leading experts in Microsoft Excel, Power Query, and Power BI. In recognition of his contributions to the online community Ken has been recognized with the prestigious Microsoft Most Valuable Professional award every year since 2006. In 2013 Ken was also recognized as one of the “Top 20 Under 40” Business and Community Leaders on Vancouver Island, and in 2014, he was also recognized as a Fellow in the CMA Society, an honour given to less than 2% of CMA’s in their lifetime.
