Data Connectors for Power Query in Excel
One of the things that makes Power Query so powerful is able to connect to almost any type of data source. So how come you find yourself asking, "Why is this connector not available to me?" Well, it very likely has to do with what SKU (or version) of Excel you are running.
Many of the data connectors are available in all versions of Excel, but some are available only in "professional" editions. These SKUs include:
- Office 365 ProPlus
- Office 2016 Professional
- Office 2016 Professional Plus, and
- Excel 2016 standalone
It is also important to note that new connectors and other updates that Microsoft release for Power Query are only made available to subscription-based SKUs of Office; they are not available in non-subscriptions (standalone) versions. To find out what SKU of Office you are running, go to File --> About, and it will be identified at the top of the Product Information window that appears.
